Local fun things to do with your dog!

There are so many things to do with your dog in the HRM now - and most of them have facebook pages, so it's really easy to get connected - I'm sure I'm just going to list a few of them - so if you know of one that I don't have listed here - email me at dogkisser@gmail.com and I'll add them to the list -

The Mainlands Commons Small Dogs Park in Clayton Park has a facebook group so you can check in and schedule meet up with other group members so you that you don't have to be there alone - that facebook group is at https://www.facebook.com/SmallDogPark/ - the big dog side also has a page and that's at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1401310673498009/

The Eddie Leblanc Dog Park in Lower Sackville also has a page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/210760209069675/ - and in Dartmouth the Shubie Dog Park has a page at https://www.facebook.com/shubiedoggiepark/

For just general walking in which you can take your dog with you - there's the Halifax North West Trails Association which you can find at https://www.facebook.com/Halifax-North-West-Trails-124497311008207/

There's also Hike Nova Scotia which you can get in touch with - their website is at http://www.hikenovascotia.ca/

http://www.lietash.com Lietash does just about everything! Obediences, flyball, agility, dock diving, skijoring - depending on the season you can do anything on their property out in Hants County - they also have classes in the city in the winter so check them out!

http://halifaxkennelclub.ca/ Halifax Kennel Club - is for the more snooty types and their pure breed dogs - they have dog shows and stuff, but this is the world we all (people in the world of back yard breeder and spay and neuter advocates) are working towards someday - when there are no more unwanted companion animal pregnancies and you have apply to waiting lists for babies and be approved and it's hard to get puppies and you have to pay alot of money for them!

I had an email from Krystle about one particular Facebook group and it's called "Pug Pals of the HRM" - I tell you - Pug owners LOVE to get together! This group is trying to get together on Sunday, and as of my writing this update has EIGHTY members! Can you believe that! So if you have a pug, and you want to meet other pug owners - you should go join this group! Thanks to Krystle for forming this group!

There's also a very active local great dane community! Who knew? They also have a Facebook group that they access and get together through - at https://www.facebook.com/groups/5504798302/- and they meet up for socials locally - I bet that's a sight to see!! I'd like to see the pugs and the great danes get together - now THAT would be something to see!

A great facebook group to join is "Pat Lee's Pet Corner" - she will keep you up to date on everything that's going on in the local pet commuity - along with local pet politics - it's a great facebook group for all things local! She's at https://www.facebook.com/patleepetcorner/

http://www.caans.ca Welcome to CAANS - the website for the Canine Agility Association of Nova Scotia!

http://www.flyballdogs.com/mapleleaps/ Maple Leaps Flyball Club - Flyball = very happy dogs!!!!

http://www.dockdogs.com/ Dock Dogs is a new sport in Nova Scotia started up by the Lietash people and its catching on like wildfire!! It's a water retriever dog's dream come true!

If you're more philanthropic in the way you want to spend time with your dog - there's "Therapeutic Paws of Canada" - a super organization that does things like have children read to dogs to feel more comfortable about reading, plus tons of other stuff!

There's also the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program too! They've got a very active local community all across Nova Scotia and they go to Nursing Homes, and hospitals - and is a very rewarding way to spend time with your lifetime canine companion.

There's a facebook group for lovers of dogs in Nova Scotia - it's called "Pet's of Nova Scotia" and you can find them here - https://www.facebook.com/PetsNS/

If you don't take your dogs to any of the local doggy day cares - maybe you should! Several of them have doggy socials that are a ton of fun! The Chewed Slipper out in Lower Sackville has a very active dog owner/dog social life, Pampered Paws Inn on the Hammonds Plains Road has an ice cream stand and doggy socials in the summertime, Happy Hounds in Halifax also has doggy socials - so if you like to socialize - the local dog day cares are here to serve you!

Jolllytails in Halifax also has regular doggy socials too - so if that's something you think you might be interested in - you should check out your local doggy day care and see if they offer anything like this!
